1996 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1996 Men's Champions Trophy took place from December 7 to December 15, 1996 in the newly build Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Madras (now Chennai), India. Participating nations in this post-Olympic tournament were: Australia, titleholders Germany, hosting nation India, Netherlands, Pakistan, and Spain.

For the fifth time the annual six nations tournament ended with play-offs, in which the numbers one and two from the Round Robin faced each other in the final. The numbers three and four played the bronze medal game, while the numbers five and six tried to avoid relegation in their fifth and sixth place match. For the first time a win was rewarded with three instead of two points in the preliminary round robin.
