Alliance for the Separation of School and State

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alliance for the Separation of School & State, of Fresno, California, is one of the largest U.S. advocacy organizations supporting an end to government schooling. Since the early 1990s, the group has been gathering signatories to their proclamation, which states "I proclaim publicly that I favor ending government involvement in education."

The list of endorsers is public and shown on the group's website. Prominent endorsers may be viewed at http://schoolandstate.org/proclamation.htm. Searches may be done at http://www.honestedu.org/view/search.php.

According to the group's website, "The full separation of school and state means rescinding government-compelled attendance, curriculum, credentialing, accreditation, and financing." The Alliance favors scholarships and other privately-funded grants as a means of providing education to the poor. However, it is opposed to education vouchers, arguing that "if vouchers become commonplace, private and religious schools will become more and more like public schools."
