The 4 arrondissements of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department are:

  1. Arrondissement of Barcelonnette, (subprefecture: Barcelonnette) with 2 cantons and 16 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 7,248 in 1990, and was 7,569 in 1999, an increase of 4.43%.
  2. Arrondissement of Castellane, (subprefecture: Castellane) with 5 cantons and 32 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 7,970 in 1990, and was 8,125 in 1999, an increase of 1.94%.
  3. Arrondissement of Digne-les-Bains, (prefecture of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department: Digne-les-Bains) with 10 cantons and 65 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 44,723 in 1990, and was 48,128 in 1999, an increase of 7.61%.
  4. Arrondissement of Forcalquier, (subprefecture: Forcalquier) with 13 cantons and 87 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 70,942 in 1990, and was 75,739 in 1999, an increase of 6.76%.
