A live version (4:37) of the song was later released on his 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive! where it gained popularity as a hit song, peaking at number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100.

- It was featured in the movie High Fidelity, performed by Lisa Bonet's character "Marie DeSalle". "Is that Peter-fucking-Frampton?" enquired Rob (John Cusack) as he walked into the bar in which DeSalle was singing it. Until that point, he had hated the song.
- It is Peter and Lois's song on Family Guy in the episode "Death Lives".
- In the episode Drew's Reunion of the The Drew Carey Show, Kate asks Drew if he remembers this song and he responds that he used to pick up chairs to this song.
- The song is featured on the soundtrack to the 2007 horror-remake film Halloween.

- The song has been covered by American reggae band Big Mountain, reaching number six on the US chart. This version is on the soundtrack for the 1994 movie Reality Bites.

- Philippine bossa nova singer Sitti recorded a cover of this song for her second album My Bossa Nova.
- This song has also been covered by Dinosaur Jr, UB40, and Arearea.
- This song was also covered by Diana Ross while records songs for her Baby It's Me album in 1977. It was included in the Diana Ross Anthology in 1983.
