[edit] Early career
Previously known as only Nio, he rose to fame in the UK with his 2003 single "Do You Think You're Special?". The single was released by Echo Records. A debut album titled Sumadis was recorded never released. Tracks from the album including "Eat Your Beef", "Music Ain't Dead", and white-label release "Rago" began to surface on the internet in late 2007.[citation needed] In February 2008, a blog on Nio's MySpace page revealed plans for a new website and promised mailing-list subscribers an unreleased track as an incentive to sign-up for updates. The track mentioned was "Get You Back", a song originally meant for the Sumadis album.[citation needed]
[edit] Pimp My Song UK mixtape
In the summer of 2007, his MySpace blog, Nio announced plans to release a mixtape entitled Pimp My Song UK. Working with record producer Manon Dave, he planned on writing new songs over popular instrumentals, spanning a number of genres and time periods in music. The mixtape would also include original productions using popular themes and samples.
Tracks such as "Can't Touch Me" (originally "Touch It" by Busta Rhymes) and "Lazy" (originally Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" were released on his MySpace page as teasers for the forthcoming mixtape. The songs seemed to have set the tone for the project, with a seemingly tongue-in-cheek approach being adopted.
No official release date for the mixtape has been announced.
[edit] Songwriting & collaborations
Bobby Nio appeared on an official remix for British girl-group All Saints' 2006 comeback single "Rock Steady". He performed a rap verse on the iTunes exclusive remix that was produced by K-Gee.
Focussing on more songwriting and production projects for 2007, he began writing and co-producing demos with long-time collaborator Manon Dave. The duo wrote and produced demos for a number of artists including Toni Braxton, Che'Nelle, Kiley Dean and Cassie.[citation needed] In early 2008, an article on the Billboard website stated that a song entitled "Push It", written and produced by Bobby Nio and Manon Dave, was a possible single from Cassie's second album.[1][not in citation given]
Nio has also announced via blogs and newsletters that he will be focussing on a new solo project in 2008. The currently untitled project will feature production from the likes of Liam Howlett, Johnny Douglas, K-Gee, Manon Dave and Mark Brydon, among others.[citation needed]
