Chittagong Government High School is a reputed secondary school in Chittagong city, in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is located in College road, beside Chittagong College.

It was established in 1906 as Chittagong Modern English (M.E.) school. The school was converted into a Government school in 1917. In 1963, the school's name was again changed to Chittagong Junior Government High School. The school was renamed to its current name in 1977 and since then it started to operate as a full fledged centre of Secondary Education in Chittagong City. The School is renowned for its academic excellence and it has produced outstanding scholars since its inception.

[edit] SSC Results and Extra-Curricular Activities

Chittagong Government High School was ranked 3rd in Chittagong Board's 2007 SSC results if GPA 5 rankings are anything to go by. This year 171 students secured GPA 5.00 out of 265 aspirants. [1]

The School's best ever results came in 1995 when 39 of its 50 aspirants secured Junior Scholarship and in 1999, 14 students were placed in the top 20 for Science & Commerce respectively.

School's top graduates continue to hold prestigious positions both in Bangladesh and abroad. CGHS Alumni includes one of the best management consultants in US, consultants at UNDP, Software Engineer and many Engineering graduates from BUET and medical graduates from top medical colleges in Bangladesh.

Students of Chittagong Government High School take part in inter school debating contest and also in the inter school Cricket tournaments in Chittagong city.

The school is currently the inter school debating champion in Chittagong City. The debating contest is known as Lifebuoy Gold-Prothom Alo Inter-School and College debate competition.[2]

  • Dr. Abdullah Al Muti Sharfuddin: One of the renowned scientists in Bangladesh.
  • Nakib Khan: One of the best musicians and architect of band music in Bnalgadesh. He also founded a famous band "Renesa" (Renaissance) in the early 80's.
  • Niaz Ahmed Khan: Professor of Public Administration, University of Dhaka, Forest & Natural Resource Management Specialist, Consultant at UNDP and an authoritative Author on Social Forestry in Bangladesh. [3]
  • Subir Chowdhury: Chairman and CEO of American Supplier Institute & well known leader of Quality Management and world renowned Author of best selling books Management 21C, Power of Six Sigma, Robust Engineering, Organization 21C and numerous technical titles. [4] He is the first IIT graduate and the only Bangladeshi to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for Engineering, Science and Technology. IIT featured him as one of their top 15 alumni and he was also one of 21 alumni to be awarded with Distinguished Alumni Award from Central Michingan University. Michigan Technological University awarded him with Honorary Doctorate of Engineering in 2004.
  • Mohammad Adil Hossain Nobel: Media personality, considered as one of the best male models in Bangladesh
  • Aftab Ahmed: ODI and Test cricketer of Bangladesh cricket team
