Cuca (folklore)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the Mexican rock group, see La Cuca.
Cuca (from Portuguese) is a female monster from Brazilian folklore. It is an ugly old alligator that eats disobedient children. There is a very popular lullaby in Brazil about it:
- Sleep, baby,
- Because the Cuca wants to take you
- Daddy go to the garden
- Mummy come straight back
Apart from the lullaby, the monster remains popular today only as a literary character of books by Monteiro Lobato and by television programs for children Sítio do Picapau Amarelo.
