Deer Valley Middle School, part of the Deer Valley Unified School District, is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Opened as a Junior High School in 1970, it adopted the "middle school philosophy" in 1989.
The vision for the school is to nurture and develop productive and responsible students through collaboration with staff, parents, and community members.
DVMS aims to reach their vision through the following key indicators for success:
- Consistently communicate clear and high expectations for the students
- Promote a culture of effort-based learning underscoring critical and higher order thinking for the students
- Provide a safe and positive environment for all of the students
- Plan and deliver a rigorous standards-based instructional program in the classroom
- Implement the use of technology to further learning
- Provide differentiated instruction and ongoing feedback on student progress
- Engage all stakeholders in collaborative school improvement efforts

Special programs at the school are: English Language Learner, Title I, and Gifted.
Deer Valley's ability to meet the special needs of some students through their inclusion policy has come under attention and some criticism in recent years.[1][2]
[edit] Extra-curricular activities
Students from Deer Valley Middle School have been working on ways to improve school spirit and pride and, toward that goal, have planted flowers, made stone paths to keep kids off the grass, and raised money for community organizations. Students also contribute to several athletic programs, including a two time state chapmion wrestling team.[3]
