Emmanuel Church's cornerstone was laid on November 10, 1887, and the first services were held in 1888.

Emmanuel Church is still an active parish in the Episcopal Diocese of South Dakota. The Rev. Canon David L. Seger is the interim rector, while the parish undergoes the search process for a new rector.[2]
