[edit] Brown Bear
The brown bear is the largest carnivore in all of North America. Males can grow to be over 7 feet tall, and weigh over 1,000 lbs. Females usually weigh quite a bit less. Like many bear species, female brown bears often give birth while hibernating. Cubs stay with their moms for about 2-3 years, before leaving their mothers forever.
[edit] Mule Deer
The mule deer is found almost exclusively in the Western United States. It gets its name from its huge ears, resembling those of a mule. Mule deer live in medium-sized herds led by a dominant male along with several other bucks, does and fawns following along.
[edit] Bighorn Sheep
Bighorn sheep live high within the Rocky Mountains. Their special hooves are designed for running up rocky hillsides, to avoid hungry predators such as wolves. Only rams live up to the species' name "bighorn" as females of the species don't have horns. To win a female, males butt heads. Head-butting matches can last up to several hours. The Lewis and Clark expidetion notice that they jumped high from rock to rock
